Ready to teach, ready to learn

Ready to Teach = Ready to Learn

Staff check in with students to ensure that the student's basic needs are being met.  This may include the lighting, volume and temperature of the environment, a student’s sensory and communication needs, instructional adjustments through task requirements, scheduling of activities, and student interest and student choice.  Students are provided with taking up time and supported by classroom staff.

Reminder

Students are provided with positive attention to remind them about the activity/lesson/task.  This may also include visual schedules, modelled work samples and scaffolding of tasks. Students are provided with taking up time and support by classroom staff.

Limit setting

Limit setting is used by staff to redirect the students focus and attention back to the desired activity/lesson/task.  Students are provided with taking up time and support by classroom staff.

Triage

At times staff may refer to a student’s behaviour support plan (BSP) or undertake a triage with a colleague to re-engage a student back to the classroom, calm and ready to learn.

Students are provided with taking up time and support by classroom staff.  This may include the use of one of our self-regulating launchpad spaces, talking with a trusted adult, finding a quiet calm space to work.

Classroom support plan

The school-wide classroom support plan is used at our school to support classroom management and student engagement. The classroom support plan ensures that classrooms are ready for teaching and learning.

Supporting our students

Our school counsellor provides counselling using evidence-based interventions with students individually and in groups. They also undertake cognitive, emotional and behavioural assessments to contribute to the development of appropriate school-based support for students.

The school counsellor works collaboratively with our learning and support team, teachers, parents and carers, and other agencies to support learning and wellbeing outcomes for our students.

Please contact the school office if you would like to make an appointment to meet with the school counsellor about your child’s school counselling needs.
